The Mission Ministry at the Woods exists to inform and involve
our congregation in world evangelism and to maximize our effectiveness
in helping to reach people for His name from every tribe and tongue
and nation. Missions Emphasis Month - October 2011
Guarding the Next Generation
The theme of this year's mission project is "To Guard and Protect the Next Generation". In Mark 10:14 Jesus says, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." This year we will be partnering with three organizations that take seriously the call of Christ to minister to children in need so that there is nothing to hinder them from coming to Jesus. Whether it is by giving the unborn child a chance at life, or meeting the needs of children in foreign countries with food, clothing and shelter, this year's project will direct funds to help bring children to Jesus. In addition to the partnership with these organizations, we will also be creating an adoption fund that will help families here at Colonial Woods with some of the expenses involved in providing a Christian home for a child in need through adoption. We will be featuring a different ministry each of the first 4 weekends in October, and then the last weekend of October will be our Pledge Sunday where you can make a pledge towards one or more of these funds, to be fulfilled by December 31, 2011.
October 1 & 2 Featured Ministry
Blue Water Pregnancy Care Center: Project Goal $25,000
Since the Blue Water Pregnancy Care Center first became a medical center in 2005, they have been offering emotional, physical, and spiritual support to those facing sexual decisions, unplanned pregnancy, post abortion trauma, and unexpected parenting obligations. Over the years their clientele has dramatically increased from 100 a year to 835 in 2010. It has become apparent to the Center that they need a new facility to meet the need and demand for their services. Earlier this year they purchased the former Armbruster Restaurant building for a bargain basement price of $20,000. Now they are in need of $190,000 to convert the building to a fresh, modern facility, suitable for hosting a dynamic life-saving ministry and medical center. We want to partner with them in this project so that they can continue to protect and guard the lives of children here in St. Clair County.
October 8 & 9 Featured Ministry
Colonial Woods Adoption Fund: Project Goal $5,000
All over the world, millions of orphans are waiting, longing for a forever family to take them home. However, adoption can cost between $10,000, and $45,000, and many families with room in their hearts and homes are unable to overcome the financial barriers. Here at Colonial Woods we believe that nothing can change a child's life like being adopted into a loving Christian home where he or she can be loved, cared for and given every opportunity to learn about Jesus and to grow up to love and serve Him. In order to come alongside those who desire to change a child's life by giving him a permanent home, we are creating a fund to help families with some of the costs they will incur in the adoption process.
October 15 & 16 Featured Ministry
Compassion International: Project Goal $5,000
In response to the Great Commission, Compassion International exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults. Since 1952, Compassion has been mobilizing caring people to provide food, shelter, education, medical care and Christian training for children in need. More than 2 million children have been sponsored through Compassion, and its history can be traced through more than 40 countries. Compassion's Christian commitment has never wavered. They are keenly aware of the part they play in fulfilling the Great Commission. All of their employees are committed followers of Jesus Christ, dedicated to developing children worldwide — and they are working exclusively through local churches and fellowships. Currently, Compassion serves over 1 million children in more than 26 developing countries.
October 22 & 23 Featured Ministry
Forgotten Children International: Project Goal $5,000
Forgotten Children International works in Uganda and other African nations seeking to provide a genuine refuge of hope for orphaned, forgotten, vulnerable children and for a community at large suffering from harsh poverty, the ravages of HIV/AIDS and a gross absence of resources. The vision of Forgotten Children International is to provide a loving and nurturing environment for forgotten children in which they may come to fully understand the love of Jesus by providing a loving home environment, food, medical care, education and spiritual instruction. FCI offers a refuge of hope for broken, hurting children.
October 29 & 30 Pledge Sunday
This is the weekend where you turn in your pledge cards to designate where you feel that the Lord is leading you to give. Our overall goal is $40,000 and we are trusting the Lord to meet that goal. All pledges need to be fulfilled by December 31, 2011.
We have put together some booklets showing all of CWMC's missionaries, along with their contact information. These booklets will be available at the Welcome Center to help you in praying for our missionaries. If you have any questions about any of these ministries, you can contact Pastor Ann Harrington by calling the church office at (810) 984-5571 or click here to email Pastor Ann .
World Vision Poverty Meal
November 10, 2011 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
We've all heard the stories of poverty and hunger. We've seen the tragic images of emaciated children with hollow eyes and swollen bellies. We know there are those in the world who go to bed hungry each night, but do we really understand what their lives are l ike? Do we really understand the enormity of the situation in places like the horn of Africa, India and Pakistan?
Hunger is anything but yesterday's problem: More people are going hungry than ever before — approximately 925 million worldwide. That is more than the population of North and South America combined. The recent global food crisis and economic downturn have added millions of people to the ranks of the hungry over the last couple of years.
We hear of food being sent to those in need. People are doing something to ease the suffering. But do we ever consider what that food is like? How does it taste? How much do they get? How would we feel in their situation?
Here at Colonial Woods we have a unique opportunity to answer some of these questions. On Thursday, November 10th at 6: 00pm we are hosting our first ever Poverty Meal. We are offering you a chance to experience this for yourself. Through a simple porridge meal similar to what is given to those in need, true-to-life stories from a World Vision speaker, discussion and prayer, participants will identify with and intercede on behalf of those broken by the cycle of poverty, disease, and hunger.
We are challenging people to fast during the day before coming to the meal to help them better empathize with those who are truly experiencing hunger on a daily basis.
If you would like more information, you can contact Pastor Ann Harrington by calling the church office at (810) 984-5571 or click here to email Pastor Ann.
