Pastor Phil Whetstone

Senior Pastor

Pastor Phil Whetstone joined Colonial Woods Missionary Church in August of 2002. Phil and his wife Tammy have been married since 1987 and have enjoyed ministering within 3 congregations as Sr. Pastor since 1989. Phil and Tammy have three children, Brittini, Calvin, and Wesley.


Pastor Phil received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991 from Vennard College and a Masters of Ministry from Bethel College in 2000. He was licensed in 1989 with the Missionary Church, and ordained in 1993. Pastor Phil began his pastoral ministry at Wright Union Community Church from 1989-1991 while he was completing his education at Vennard College. Their family then moved to Warsaw, IN in 1991 and served for five wonderful years at the Warsaw Missionary Church. God then led them to Elkhart, IN in 1996 where they enjoyed their ministry at Zion Missionary Church until his leading to Colonial Woods. His passion in ministry is to see people at all levels of their spiritual lives grow in their relationship with Christ. His love in ministry is communicating the relevancy of God's word to our lives today.

Pastor Ann Harrington

Director of Ministries

Ann has been serving in full time ministry since 1993, when feeling called to the mission field she left a job in the medical field to pursue ministry. With a degree in Exercise Physiology from Central Michigan University, this was a major change of direction in her life, but one that she doesn't regret for one minute. Ann's vision is to see this generation of Christians fall in love with the Word of God and live authentic, Godly lives that impact their culture. She has traveled the world training up young men and women to reach the world for Christ, first with Youth with a Mission in Australia and Asia and now as the Mission and Adult Education Pastor here at Colonial Woods Missionary church. She is a graduate of Bethel College with a Masters Degree in Ministry.

Tim McCulloch

Business & Finance Director

Tim joined the staff in December 2014.  Tim and his wife, Joann, have been married since 2002, and they have three daughters, Grace, Abigail, and Kathleen.Tim graduated from Baker College with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.  He also received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Baker College.  Most recently, Tim worked for the City of Fraser as the Finance Director/Treasurer.Besides analyzing figures and reviewing contracts, you will often find Tim working with the elementary kids in the Children’s Ministry.  His passion is helping kids build a solid foundation on Jesus Christ for the rest of their lives.Community involvement has always been another key proponent for Tim.  Over the years, he has served on several community boards, including the Port Huron City Council and Port Huron Area School District Board of Education.  Tim also volunteers his time to coach and referee local youth sport programs.

Pastor Brian Ake

Director of Congregational Life

Brian, (twin brother to Pastor Bruce Ake) is our most recent staff member, coming to Colonial Woods in 2015.  He returns to our staff after having served Colonial Woods twice previously: Music and Worship Pastor/Busing Director (1979-83) and as Youth Pastor (1992-95).  Down through the years, Brian has enjoyed ministering to all age groups in the church.  He has regularly worked with children doing music for VBS programs; leading Youth Programs; leading worship for the youth at the Brown City Missionary Church family camp; and has loved caring for and visiting hospitals, nursing homes and seniors in their homes.  He has also served as senior pastor for the Open Door Missionary Church in Sandusky, Michigan (2013-2015).


Brian also has a passion for missions having served as a Missionary Pilot/Mechanic for several years, flying and maintaining DC-3 aircraft to transport missionaries and their supplies in and out of many Caribbean islands. 


Brian attended Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana acquiring a Bachelor Degree in Biblical Literature [79] and received his Pilot/Mechanic Training at Moody Aviation in Elizabethton, Tennessee [88].  Brian met his wife Cheri here in Port Huron and were married at Colonial Woods in 1983.  They have three children, Joshua, Andrew, Brianna and 5 grandchildren. 

Pastor Ryan Graham

Worship and Creative Arts

Ryan joined Colonial Woods staff as the Director of Creative Arts Ministries in 2018. He graduated from Western Kentucky University in May of 2010 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He came to us from Nappanee Missionary Church in Nappanee, Indiana where he had been a worship pastor since 2016. Ryan married his wife Megan on March 15, 2014 and they currently have a beautiful daughter named Kinsley and a son named Ryder. Ryan loves to worship Jesus, be with family, golf, and spend time doing anything that makes you laugh.

Pastor Bruce Ake

Director of Music and Worship

Bruce's roots are well estabished in the Missionary Church. His family roots extend all the way to the founding fathers of the denomination. His home church is the Warren Community Church in Warren, Michigan. Music has always played an important role in his life and in the lives of his entire family. From singing in the children's programs, traveling with the youth choir on various cross country tours, and ministering weekly with the adult choir - singing praises to God has been his passion. Bruce attended Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana on two occassions acquiring two Bachelor Degree's - Biblical Literature [83'] and Church Music [93']. His experience singing in the Concert Choir and traveling and leading the Gospel Teams Program has contributed greatly in how God is using him in his ministry. Bruce married Sherry Turner in 1977 and she is an integral part of the ministry to which God has called them. They have two children, Melissa and Jennilyn.

Pastor Dan Hamrick

Director of Student Ministries

Dan joined Colonial Woods staff as the Junior High Youth Pastor in April of 2006 and became the Director of Student Ministries in 2010. He graduated from Bethel College in May of 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Youth Ministry. He came to us from New Horizons Fellowship in New Haven, Indiana where he had been the Director of Student Ministries since May of 2004. Dan was married to his beautiful wife, Stephanie in December of 2008. At that time, Dan also became the proud father of three, two beautiful girls, Nicole and Taylor and his adopted son, Wilson. Dan loves God, his family, Dr. Pepper (the pop & paraphernalia) and sports—in that order.

Pastor Chelsea Zalewski

Student Ministries

Chelsea joined the Colonial Woods staff in 2010 but has been actively involved at CW for over twenty years, once walking the halls of youth group as a student herself. After growing up at Colonial Woods and volunteering in many capacities, she went on to Moody Bible Institute where she graduated in 2009 with a degree in Biblical Studies and Communications. She then worked in Chicago for a year as a freelance graphic designer before returning to Port Huron where she now lives out her passions of working with students and spreading the love and beauty of Christ. In 2018 she was a blessed by the addition of her husband, Adam, who now joins her in her passion for Jesus and ministry.

Katie Johnson

Director of Club 56

Katie Johnson officially joined our staff in February of 2016 after serving as an intern (in some capacity) for 2 years. Katie was born and raised in Decatur, Indiana where her family currently resides and she visits as frequently as possible. She loves the Lord, her family, students, and watching/playing sports (specifically football and the Indianapolis Colts)!


Katie graduated from Huntington University in 2015 with Bachelor of Science degrees in Youth Ministry and Family & Children's Ministries. After working with junior high students for several years she is super excited to be working with our 5th and 6th grade students. Katie loves to see students learn and grow in their faith as they become fully devoted disciples of Christ.

Amy Diller

Director of Children's Ministry

Amy Diller joined the ministry staff at Colonial Woods in August of 2011. She and her husband, Jason, have been married since 1995, and have two daughters, Abbey and Sophie. Both born and raised in the Port Huron area, Amy and Jason became friends while in youth group at Life of Faith Fellowship and were actively involved there for many years before making Colonial Woods their home church in 2006.

Amy graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She returned to U of M for graduate studies and earned a Master of Arts degree in Literacy with certification as a Reading Specialist in 2005. As a public school teacher for over ten years, she enjoyed sharing her love for learning with children from preschool through fifth grade.

Amy believes that investing in the lives of children is a calling of tremendous responsibility and one of the greatest privileges and most exciting adventures in this life. The Lord has placed a passion in her heart to see children nurtured in all areas: spiritually, emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically. Amy looks forward with anticipation to following the Lord's direction as He guides CW Children in blessing the lives of children and their families throughout the community. 

Lisa Henry

Preschool Director

Lisa Henry joined the ministry staff at Colonial Woods in November of 2011. She and her husband, Mike, have been married since 1991, and have three daughters, Hannah, Amy, and Abby.

Lisa graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, majoring in Child Development. She received her Master's Degree from Michigan State University in Child Development, as well. Lisa enjoyed working as an elementary public school teacher for over twelve years before choosing to stay home with her young children.

Colonial Woods has been home to Lisa since she was in high school. She has been involved in various ministry areas over the years and has a particular passion for Children's Ministry. Lisa is excited to be working with, encouraging, and supporting children and their families as they grow in relationship with one another and the Lord.

Pastor Jayson Tuckey

Director of Technology Ministries

Jayson Tuckey came to Colonial Woods in September 2015 as an Intentional Ministry Intern with a focus in technology. After interning at CW for 10 months, he officially came onto the staff as the Coordinator of Technology Ministries in July 2016. Jayson graduated from Bethel College in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Ministries, and again in 2016 with his Masters Degree in Christian Ministries.

Jayson grew up in Cass City, Michigan and attended Cass City Missionary Church. His childhood church was also where he first connected with technology as a ministry of its own. He felt the call of the Lord, and also his call into Ministry, at Brown City Camp in his early teen years. It was also at Brown City Camp where he met, got engaged, and married Kaitlyn on May 20th, 2017. Although Jayson feels called into Ministry, he also realizes that he has a talent for technology, and he wishes to use this blessing to turn the technological needs of the Church into a Ministry and to help share Jesus with others.

Trish Swenson

Guest Services Director

Trish was raised right here in Port Huron but spent many happy years out West where she met and married her husband, Konrad in 1994. 

After working in the corporate world for many years, Trish gladly left the “rat race” to raise two wonderful boys (now young men).  During these years, she joined the staff at Mariner’s Church in Newport Beach California where she developed programs for Mom’s Morning Out & served in Children’s Ministry.  Additionally, Trish taught classes through CBS (Community Bible Study) for 15 years and held many women’s bible studies in her home.

In 2006, Trish saw the light and brought her family back home.  Soon after that, Trish began serving in many volunteer positions at Colonial Woods, including being Director of Guest Services and Director of Women’s Ministry.

Social justice is a burning passion in Trish’s heart.  She actively speaks out against Human Trafficking and has worked with the Women at Risk organization for several years.

Trish is thrilled to be on staff to lead the Guest Services and Social Justice Ministries at Colonial Woods.  She is looking forward to how God will use her to bring more people to the Kingdom of God.

Pastor Bob Keller

Director of Seniors and Visitation

Pastor Robert Keller (known to most people as Pastor Bob) has been a part of the Colonial Woods Missionary Church staff since 1983. He was born in Detroit (MI), and grew up in the Warren and Southfield areas of the state. He attended Houghton College in New York for 2 years before graduating from Bethel College (BA Degree) in Indiana. He then attended Asbury Theological Seminary (MDiv Degree) in Wilmore, Kentucky. Pastor Bob and his wife (Ellie) have been married since 1962 and have two married sons, and six grandchildren. He enjoys photography, wood carving and stunt kite building/flying.

Gary Caughel

Facilities Director

Gary was born and raised in Port Huron. He married his wife, Stephanie in August of 2016 and then considered it an honor to be able to adopt both Elijah and Miley in August of 2018.

Gary has a degree in Architectural Technology from SC4 and a Bachelor of Science from University of Michigan-Flint, (where he first met Stephanie).

Gary enjoys helping others out in any capacity but has always enjoyed assisting in repairs around their home and has been doing these home repairs and improvements for over 20 years.  Gary loves to connect with others and invest in them while performing the job at hand.  He takes pride in his work and believes his work is a reflection of himself just like he is a reflection of Christ’s work in him.  Gary has a passion for missions work and enjoys being outdoors (preferably in the summertime), spending time with his wife and kids (together and separate), and a morning cup of coffee.
